Mathura and Vrindavan, collectively known as Braj Bhoomi, form the most sacred landscape in Vaishnavism. This is the land where the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna enacted his divine pastimes (leelas), and visiting these places is believed to awaken pure bhakti in the heart of every devotee.
Mathura — The Birthplace of Lord Krishna
Mathura is where Lord Krishna was born in the prison of the tyrant king Kamsa over 5,000 years ago. The Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple stands at the exact spot of his divine birth and is one of the most sacred sites in Hinduism. Walking through Mathura’s ancient streets, visiting its 25 ghats along the Yamuna, and feeling the energy of the city where Krishna’s earthly journey began is a profoundly moving experience for every devotee.
Vrindavan — The Playground of Krishna
Vrindavan is where young Krishna spent his childhood and youth, enchanting everyone with his divine flute, performing the Rasa Leela with the Gopis, and engaging in countless playful pastimes. The town has over 5,000 temples, and the devotional energy here is unlike anywhere else on earth. The narrow lanes, the constant sound of bhajans and kirtans, the evening aarti at the Yamuna ghats, and the joyful spirit of the residents make Vrindavan a place where devotion is not practised it is lived.
Braj Bhoomi — The Extended Sacred Circuit
Beyond Mathura and Vrindavan, the larger Braj region includes Gokul (where infant Krishna was raised), Govardhan (the sacred hill Krishna lifted on his little finger), Barsana (Radha’s birthplace), Nandgaon (where Krishna grew up with Nanda Baba and Yashoda), and many other leelasthals. Our extended Mathura Vrindavan packages from Chennai cover this complete Braj circuit for the most spiritually comprehensive yatra.
